Life// A Frozen Birthday

I realized that I still hadn't put up this post. So I scrambled to get it up.
It is a very important post, I'd say.
   Olivia turned four last month.
Her most favorite movie of all time is Frozen.

So we couldn't just throw her a birthday party. It had to be a Frozen birthday party.
So that is what we did...

Cake is the beginning to all birthdays. Lets start with that, shall we?
A delicious double layered vanilla cake with pink and blue piping accents...
                                                         Aaanndd, cupcakes!
We decorated with streamers and confetti, but sadly I did rather poorly of capturing them...
We'll leave that bit out...
What's a Frozen birthday without some Frozen garb, right? Mom made her an Anna dress and cape and decided to give it to Olivia ahead of time so she could wear it during cake and such.
Isn't she adorable? What's more is that it was even snowing. Perfection!
Most of her gifts had something to do with, you guessed it, Frozen.
Anna dress, Frozen glow in the dark wand, Frozen mittens, the Frozen movie.... She was ecstatic! There were also somethings not Frozen related (to balance it out a bit...).

To conclude the day we sat around with bellies full of cake and ice cream watching Frozen.
I do believe this party was quite a success.
Love,
Hagen

What She Wore// The Sojourner

Hey There!
We hope you enjoyed our Thrift Haul Video! Here's an outfit Hagen put together using some of her new pieces...

She calls it 'The Sojourner'. It's a comfy, yet durable outfit. With her Vans and backpack, she's ready for an adventure! I love the denim heart knee patch. It's actually covering up a rip from when I fell while skateboarding down a hill :) I guess you have to get creative with hand-me-downs!

You might recognize this printed headband from the video. We forgot to mention that it was $1. Not bad for a cute accessory, eh? I fixed Hagen's hair in a quick and simple boho do.

 -What She Wore-
skinny jeans- hand-me-downs
top- thrifted $3
gray tank- from a friend
Vans- Shoe Carnival $45
backpack- Walmart $18
headband- thrifted $1

I think it's a pretty stinkin' cute outfit, what about you?
Love from,
Layla

Life// Dad's Birthday

Last month, the day after Valentines Day to be exact, we had the privilege of celebrating Dad's birthday.

 Quite an assortment of gifts...

We always have a hard time deciding what to make him for his gifts, but usually end up making food. Lots of different foods. He likes food... And this year we made him his very own cookie cake. (Piping by Layla)

Our Dad is awesome. Period. He carries the weight of everything. He juggles a full time job, full time school and full time family. And still smiles and makes us smile!
He teaches us in the way we should go daily.
He always make up some little song for each occasion. Even when I'm just doing dishes.
He is quite a dork, I must say.
And I love him. I wouldn't trade him for any other dad in the world.
We LOVE you, Dad!

Sourdough Bread {no knead, one rise}

Everyone calls me the "Sourdough Lady."
They like the food I make with sourdough. Particularly bread.
So I thought I might share with you my recipe. But I also have a friend who has been waiting for it.... for a while. Sorry.

The best thing about this bread is that you don't have to spend countless minutes kneading it and making your arms feel like jello. Nor do you have to let it rise several times. You just mix it up the night before and bake it in the morning.
Easy Peasey.
Sourdough Bread Recipe {no knead, one rise}
Makes two loaves.

Ingredients:

2 eggs
2 c. buttermilk, milk, or whey
2 c. sourdough starter
4-5 c. wheat flour
2 tsp. salt

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs and milk. Add in sourdough and salt.
  2. Pour in flour, a little at time. Make sure it is thoroughly mixed in. I like to kinda, "fold" in the flour. Dough will be pretty liquid-y compared to usual bread dough consistencies.
  3.  Transfer the dough equally to two, glass, oiled bread pans. Do not use metal! It never works, the bread just sticks to it and makes a big crumby mess.
  4.  Leave the pans in your oven over-night. I like to leave my oven light on. It gives off a little warmth, allowing the dough to rise more.
  5. In the morning, bake your bread at *350 for about 30 to 40 mins. or until brown and hollow sounding.
  6. Enjoy! with a slab of butter and a warm cup of tea or melted cheese and a tall glass of milk or... there are so many possibilities. Far too many to list. It can be used for anything, really.
Eat fresh or store in a bread bag on the counter.
I really just love how easy this is! And really, the possibilities are endless.
You could add cinnamon and raisins...
                                             Apples and nutmeg....
You can make croutons when it gets stale....
Just play with it! Have fun!
I hope you liked this post. I'd love to hear what you've been baking!
Now get going and make some bread!
Love,
Hagen

Life// Layla's Birthday

We have yet again celebrated another birthday, Layla's 21'st birthday was on the 31'st. We all had a great time!

We ate cake, drank milk, and passed around the presents, resulting in a rather large array of gift wrapping and cake crumbs.

After presents and cake, we went out to eat lunch. (Cake before lunch! Whaat?)

We went to a lovely Cafe and Creperie called The Aviary. It was delicious and super photogenic!

Afterwards, we walked around in Bass Pro. Watched the ducks and fish, played in the boats and...

...took our annual Bass Pro family photo. Turned out a little differently than usual. (Dad and I are absent in this one)

The day was great!
I am so thankful that Layla decided to spend her 21st birthday with us instead of celebrating like most people her age do. It is so nice to be able to spend so much time with my best friend!
I love my sis! She's not afraid to be herself and we can always talk to each other when we need a listening ear. I thank the Lord daily for blessing me with her!

Love,
Hagen
