What She Wore// 50's Feel

Hello, I've got another outfit for you!
This one was really fun, with a nice little 50's feel...

















 Layla does it again! I love the pieces she used for this outfit, from her Oxford pumps that were super on sale, to her cute red earrings that were given to her by two special, sweet friends of ours for her birthday! (You know who you are!)
Not to mention, she can pull off a high-waisted skirt so well!
Her 'cat-eye' glasses also add a touch of 50's as well as color...

 I'll let you in on a little secret... Layla's cute button up shirt is not a shirt at all, it's a dress! She just simply pulled her neutral skirt over it and, Viola! Her favorite little black dress now works as a top, too!

  And of course her hair! She did really great with this, mine probably wouldn't have stayed, but that's another story... Oh, and did you noticed she colored it? I think is looks really great on her and complements her well!

What She Wore// Oxford Pumps

Hello Dearies! 
 Today I'm going to share with you an adorable, vintage-y outfit modeled by Layla!
 It was a bit chilly out when we snapped these pics, so we decided to take them inside...

I like how the neutrals in Layla's skirt (which she made herself, by the way) blend well with her Oxford Pumps and braided belt, and the sweater adds a nice pop of color while also complementing her blue eyes.

I think the Oxfords kinda tie this whole outfit together, giving it the vintage feel Layla was going for. 

 Over all, I really like this outfit! Cute and comfortable, modest and feminine, aaaaand on a budget!

A Step Back in History

When I walk into a museum, I feel a wave of enchantment, mystery and a twinge of excitement come over me. I feel as though I have stepped into a new world and am walking through each era, discovering new facts. I love seeing old artifacts, reading about how people from the past lived, learning about their ingenuity and techniques. 

Today we took a trip to the local museum. Gabe wanted to  document the trip by taking pictures, but the museum wouldn't allow taking pictures unless it was for a school project. Of course we could count it as a school project, even a trip to the store can be field trip!

 We started with learning about the local indian tribe, the Karankawa's.

The Karankawan Indians lived in small bands made up of about 40-50 people. They lived close to the ocean and were good fishermen. They would rub fish oil on their bodies in summer to repel the mosquitoes, but the smell also kept other Indian tribes away! In 1680, there was an estimated amount of 8,000 Karankawans, but by the year 1840, the tribe had been wiped out.

 

 

Next, we learned about the Abner Jackson Plantation. Abner Jackson owned most of the land in the area, and had three large plantations. His plantations supplied sugar and cotton.

 Matilda found it interesting how the slaves made their own bricks.

 

This is a painting of the Abner Jackson Plantation, before it was destroyed by a hurricane in the year 1900. 

Hagen is a marble collector, so she enjoyed these marbles that were found when the old plantation was excavated.

Next up was the DOW Chemical plant. We knew a little about it, because there are huge plants by the ocean, but we learned more about Herbert H. Dow and his company.

The first magnesium ingot was poured on Jan. 21, 1941. It was the first magnesium ever extracted from sea water.

People came to work in the new plants.

 I love this picture from the 50's of a family and their camper!

 

 There was also a small exhibit on hats from the 50's.

 And lastly, we learned about a local dentist who designed and built this plane using epoxy resin. Later, he donated it to the museum.

 We enjoyed our visit to the museum, there is always more to learn! By the way, Gabe took most of these pictures. He's getting pretty good!

What She Wore Wednesdays- Wool Skirt

Hello friends!

I know today is Saturday, and you are probably bummed that we didn't do a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday post. I was on the truck with Dad this week and yesterday was my birthday, is that a good enough excuse? No, you say? Well, I am going to try to make it up to you and catch up on those posts....

This week we did pictures on the tracks again... it's so much fun!

Hagen went vintage with a really old wool skirt, a stripped button-up, flats, and curly hair!

Happy Thursday Everyone! Here's what we are loving this week...

This week I've been loving my black flats. They go with pretty much everything :)

My sister, Matilda, and I curled our hair with these, and we loved it!

I started reading this book and I highly recommend it for all young women!

For Christmas Mom and Dad bought me a drawing course book and sketch pencils!

French braided up-do's. I'm thinking of doing a video on all of my favorite french braided hair style's, what do you think?

Bunnies! Yes, this is one of ours. :)

The Henningsens... my new favorite country band! They are a wonderful family with ten children. When I was at the Campbell's, Rashida and Meadow where so excited that they made it on the radio because they are all good friends!
